Audit Your Top Ten Landing Pages in One Afternoon

Full-site SEO audits produce hundreds of findings and get read once. A smaller exercise produces fixes you will actually ship: take the ten pages that receive the most organic traffic and interrogate only those.

Get the list

In Google Search Console, open Performance, set the date range to the last three months, and switch to the Pages tab. Sort by clicks. The top ten are your list. Do not substitute the pages you wish were popular.

Run six checks on each page

  1. Does the title tag match the query? Look at the top queries for that specific page. If people arrive searching for "emergency plumber Wilmington" and the title says "Services," you are ranking despite your title, not because of it.
  2. Does the first paragraph answer the question? Not an introduction about your company history. The answer, in the first two sentences.
  3. Is there one obvious next step? A phone number, a form, a booking link. If a visitor has to scroll to find out what to do, the page is leaking.
  4. Does it load fast on a phone on cellular data? Test on an actual phone, off wifi. Numbers from your laptop are optimistic.
  5. Are there internal links in and out? Every one of these pages should link to a related service page, and at least two other pages should link to it.
  6. Is the information still true? Prices, hours, staff names, service areas, and anything seasonal.

Fix in place, do not rewrite

These pages already rank. Wholesale rewrites throw away signals that took months to earn. Improve the title, tighten the opening, add the missing call to action, refresh the facts, and leave the URL alone.

Then check the pages that fell

Change the Search Console date comparison to the previous three months and sort by the biggest click decline. Pages that dropped usually have a specific cause: a competitor published something better, the content went stale, or an internal link that used to point at it got removed in a redesign. That short list is the most valuable SEO work available to most small sites, and it costs an afternoon.
